Apex

Maple

Over the past 10 years, I have met many incredible people through Land Based Shark Fishing (LBSF). This sculpture is intended to honor the individuals who I have had the privilege of sharing many hours on beach with.

Generations

Textile - original pattern design

Throughout my childhood and many years of 4-H projects, I was able to learn the art of sewing from my grandmother. Over time, she bestowed upon me the ability to visualize and create challenging and daunting pieces. This dress is inspired by the beauty of her craft while drawing upon history and costuming from a show that my mother and watched together for visual inspiration. Through this project, I taught myself pattern design and creation to make a fully custom and original piece.

Life List

Graphite and ink

Through land based shark fishing, I have also had the ability to engage with a large variety of sharks and other aquatic creatures. This piece is intended to be grow with me as I continue encountering new creatures and species. This collection is housed within the body of "Apex" to create a school of sharks.

Ragnarok

Ceramic

This large coil piece depicts the events leading up to the Norse Mythology tale of Ragnarok as well as the battle itself. The piece features original design and artwork executed using the sgraffito technique on a vessel of Greek design origin.

Fallon's Child

Bronze

My mother was a successful and avid equestrian in her youth and early professional periods of her life. Her horse, Fallon, was more like a sister to her than a pet. While Fallon never had a foal, this piece is intended to represent the love and familial ties between my mother, her horse, and the love of horses that she has instilled in me.

Views From The Paddock

Gouache, Watercolor, Colored Pencil, and Metal Leaf

As a pre-art therapy student, I completed both art and psychology practicums. I combined my two practicums via working with youth in the juvenile justice system at a local residential center. The youth that I worked with gravitated to the freedom and expressiveness available in art that was unavailable elsewhere in their situation. This piece combines a variety of imagery that the youth gravitated towards creating, and it is done in a style that blends their art with my own. To further the idea of interactions, I created a frame for this piece that allows the image to spin.

Drifting

Graphite

This image highlights the intrapersonal interactions in life. It highlights my tendency to fade into my surroundings and mental space. I gravitate towards seclusion and reflection and lack the boldness to break from my stagnation amongst rapidly moving times. This piece also highlights mental health and mental illness. While I created it as a reflection of myself, I often find viewers of this piece attaching their own personal meanings to the expression and interactions they see.

Legacy

Ceramic

My brother has an impressive ability to succeed in all that he encounters in life. One of his passions lies in  his 1965 Mustang GT Fastback "Maxine." She is a highly successful show car that my brother restored from just a rusty frame of an old car. The car opened up a multitude of opportunities and impressive friendships for my brother, and it helped to build him just as much as he built it. The title of this piece, "Legacy," as well as the car's name, "Maxine," memorialize our Great grandmother and her spunky, fiery, and bold personality.

Waterfront

Ceramic

Every spring break for as long as I can remember involved a trip to my grandparent's house in Naples, Florida. We were blessed with the opportunity to wake up to the water of the beaches every morning, and we were often graced with the presence of lively dolphins - my grandmother's favorite.

Happy Trails

Ceramic

My grandfather is an avid fan of Westerns. Every visit to their house would have the muffled sounds of hoofbeats and gunshots from the VCRs and DVDs that would inevitably be screening Roy Rodgers and Gene Autry.
